‘Never mind the backstop, the buck stops here’ – Príomh-Aire nua na Breataine

Tá geallta ag Boris Johnson, Príomh-Aire nua na Breataine, go bhfágfaidh a thír an tAE faoi cheann 99 lá, agus nach mbeidh aon “siar agus aniar” faoi.

Ceapadh Johnson ina Phríomh-Aire tráthnóna nuair a thug sé cuairt ar Bhanríon Shasana i bPálás Buckingham.

Ag labhairt dó lasmuigh de 10 Sráid Downing ina dhiaidh sin, mhaígh Johnson go bhfaighfí ón AE margadh imeachta nua a bheadh “níos fearr”, ach go mbeifí réidh chomh maith don Bhreatimeacht gan mhargadh ar an 31 Deireadh Fómhair.

Beifear ag fágáil an AE an lá sin is cuma cad a tharlóidh, a dúirt sé.

“In 99 days we will have cracked it,” ar sé.

Dúirt an Príomh-Aire nua nach raibh ach “seans beag” ann nach mbeadh lucht an AE sásta dul i mbun idirbheartaíochta faoi mhargadh nua. Tá a leithéid curtha as an áireamh arís agus arís eile ag an AE.

Ag tagairt do cheist theorainn na hÉireann, labhair sé faoi chairde na Breataine in Éirinn agus mhaígh sé go bhfaigheadh sé réidh leis an gcúlstop sa chonradh aistarraingthe a aontaíodh lena réamhtheachtaí, Theresa May.

Beart “frithdhaonlathach” a bhí sa chúlstop, a dúirt sé. Mhaígh sé go bhféadfaí teacht ar réiteach eile a chinnteodh nach mbeadh aon teorainn chrua in Éirinn.

Dúirt sé go gcaillfeadh aon duine a chuirfeadh “geall” i gcoinne na Breataine “a léine” agus go mbeadh thiar ar “lucht an éadóchais” a chreid nach bhféadfaí an Breatimeacht a chur i gcrích.

Am gnímh atá ann agus tabharfaidh sé féin an cheannaireacht atá de dhíth, a dúirt sé.

“Never mind the backstop, the buck stops here,” ar sé.
