Deireadh le cur ag McHugh leis an stair ‘roghnach’ sa Teastas Sóisearach

Tá cinneadh déanta ag an Aire Oideachais agus Scileanna Joe McHugh stádas mar chroí-ábhar a thabhairt don stair ar churaclam an Teastais Shóisearaigh.

Mí na Samhna seo caite iarradh ar an NCCA athbhreithniú a dhéanamh ar an gcinneadh go mbeadh an stair ina hábhar roghnach feasta don Teastas Sóisearach. Mhol an NCCA go bhfágfaí an stair mar ábhar roghnach ach rinne McHugh neamhaird den chomhairle sin.

“Táim fíorbhuíoch den NCCA agus a baill ar fad as an obair a rinne siad maidir le hathbhreithniú a dhéanamh ar an áit atá ag Stair sa tSraith Shóisearach. Tuarascáil chuimsitheach a bhí ann agus rinneadh cás láidir inti.

“Tá dianmhachnamh déanta agam uirthi [an tuarascáil] le dhá mhí anuas agus ar na tuairimí éagsúla atá ag na daoine go léir a mbuailim leo gach lá, daoine atá tiomanta ina saol agus ina slite beatha don oideachas agus do chothú intinn daoine óga,” a dúirt an tAire Oideachais.

Dúirt sé go mbeadh tacaíocht an NCCA á lorg aige maidir le conas is fearr an Stair a fhorbairt mar ábhar a bhfuil stádas speisialta mar chroí-ábhar aici.

Bhí an Stair ina hábhar riachtanach don Teastas Sóisearach i mbeagnach leath d’iarbhunscoileanna an stáit go dtí gur athraíodh a stádas i Meán Fómhair 2018 nuair a tugadh creat nua an Teastais Shóisearaigh isteach.

Bhíodh an scrúdú staire á dhéanamh ag thart ar 90% de dhaltaí.

Faoin gcreat nua ní raibh ach trí cinn den 21 ábhar don Teastas Sóisearach riachtanach – an Ghaeilge, an Béarla agus an Mhatamaitic. Bhí rogha ag daoine maidir leis an 18 ábhar eile, an stair san áireamh.

Fágann cinneadh McHugh go mbeidh stádas speisialta anois ag ceithre ábhar.

Bhí sé i gceist go ndéanfaí athbhreithniú ar stádas roghnach na Staire faoi cheann dhá bhliain ach dúirt Joe McHugh nach raibh sé sásta fanacht chomh fada sin mar go raibh an baol ann go dtiocfadh titim idir an dá linn ar líon na ndaltaí a dhéanann staidéar uirthi.
