Státrúnaí nua ceaptha ag Boris Johnson sa Tuaisceart

| Tuairisc.ie | ,

Tá Brandon Lewis ceaptha ina Státrúnaí i dTuaisceart Éireann ag Boris Johnson.

Abhcóide as Londain é Lewis atá 48 bliain d’aois agus atá ina fheisire parlaiminte don pháirtí Caomhach i Great Yarmouth.

Bhí an Feisire Lewis ina Aire Stáit Slándála agus ina Leas-Rúnaí ag Rúnaí Baile na Ríochta Aontaithe Baile, Priti Patel, go dtí seo.

Dúirt Lewis gur mór an onóir dó an post seo a fháil.

“Is mór an onóir dom a bheith ceaptha ag an bPríomh-Aire mar Státrúnaí i dTuaisceart Éireann. Is iontach an t-am é seo sa Tuaisceart agus bhí daoine iontacha sa phost seo romham agus tá súil agam leanúint lena gcuid oibre,” a dúirt Lewis níos túisce inniu.

Thug Boris Johnson bata agus bóthar do Julian Smith ar maidin.

Mhol an Taoiseach Leo Varadkar agus an Tánaiste Simon Coveney Julian Smith as “an obair mhór” a rinne sé mar Státrúnaí chun an feidhmeannas a chur ar a bhoinn arís in Stormont.

Dúirt Simon Coveney le Seán O’Rourke ar RTÉ ar maidin go raibh iontas ar go leor daoine ó gach cúlra sa Tuaisceart faoi imeacht Smith.

Dúirt an Tánaiste gur éirigh leis an Státrúnaí go leor a chur i gcrích sna sé mhí a raibh sé ina Státrúnaí ó thuaidh.

Ghabh Céad-Aire an Tuaiscirt Arlene Foster buíochas le Smith as a chuid oibre agus mhol sí chomh maith é as a ról in athbhunú Stormont.

Cé gur cheap mórán gurb é Julian Smith an Státrúnaí ab éifeachtaí ó thuaidh le tamall agus é lárnach in athbhunú an fheidhmeannais in Stormont, briseadh as a phost é mar chuid d’atheagar Johnson ar a chomh-aireacht.

Tháinig Julian Smith i gcomharbacht ar Karen Bradley mar Státrúnaí i mí Iúil 2019.

Tuairiscítear go raibh Príomh-Aire na Breataine míshásta le gnéithe áirithe den mhargadh, New Decade, New Approach, a rinneadh chun an feidhmeannas a chur ar a chosa arís, agus go raibh Johnson míshásta go háirithe faoi fhiosrúcháin a bheith beartaithe maidir le hiompar shaighdiúirí na Breataine le linn na dTrioblóidí.

Dúirt Julian Smith féin ar maidin gur “pribhléid” a bhí ann a bheith ina Státrúnaí ó thuaidh.

Serving the people of Northern Ireland has been the biggest privilege. I am extremely grateful to @BorisJohnson for giving me the chance to serve this amazing part of our country. The warmth & support from people across NI has been incredible. Thank you so much.

Spoke with @JulianSmithUK a short time ago to thank him for his help in getting devolution restored. We may not have always agreed (we did sometimes) but his dedication to the role was incredible. Best wishes to him and his family. Always welcome in Fermanagh. https://t.co/2hUzOWmRBS
