FÍSÉAN: Ceisteanna Dála freagartha ag Jack Chambers den chéad uair mar Aire Stáit Gaeltachta

Chloígh Aire Stáit nua na Gaeltachta le script réamhullmhaithe sa Dáil ar maidin agus é á cheistiú den chéad uair ó ceapadh é an tseachtain seo caite

Duine ar bith a bhí ag iarraidh éachtaint a fháil sa Dáil ar maidin ar chumas an Aire Stáit nua Gaeltachta Jack Chambers comhrá a bheith aige i nGaeilge beidh siad ag fanacht tamall eile.

Agus ceisteanna á bhfreagairt aige den chéad uair mar Aire Stáit Gaeltachta chloígh an Teachta Dála de chuid Fhianna Fáil lena script réamhullmhaithe, fiú i gcás na gceisteanna leantacha a cuireadh air.

Mhaígh Chambers an tseachtain seo caite go bhfuil sé “réasúnta compordach i mbun comhrá” i nGaeilge mar atá ach go bhfuil faoi “dianchúrsa Gaeilge” a dhéanamh le “teacht isteach” ar an teanga. Bhí “leibhéal maith Gaeilge” aige tráth, a dúirt sé.

Chosain an Taoiseach Micheál Martin a chinneadh duine nach bhfuil líofa sa Ghaeilge a cheapadh ina Aire Stáit Gaeltachta.

Chuir urlabhraí Gaeilge Shinn Féin Aengus Ó Snodaigh ceist ar an Aire Stáit Gaeltachta cén uair a raibh sé i gceist ag an rialtas plean tarrthála a fhoilsiú don Ghaeilge agus don Ghaeltacht i bhfianaise na paindéime.

Mar fhreagra air sin, léigh an tAire Stáit Gaeltachta eolas amach faoin chiste airgid atá curtha ar fáil cheana féin ag an Rialtas do na coláistí samhraidh agus d’Údarás na Gaeltachta.

In ainneoin iarrachtaí an Teachta Dála Aengus Ó Snodaigh, a chuir an cheist chéanna faoi thrí, ní dúirt an tAire Stáit nua don Ghaeltacht an raibh sé i gceist ag an rialtas plean tarrthála don Ghaeltacht a fhoilsiú nó nach raibh.

D’fhreagair an tAire Stáit nua ceist chomh maith faoi hallaí pobail na Gaeltachta atá thíos leis an phaindéim, faoi mhaoiniú Údarás na Gaeltachta agus faoi Rannóg Gaeilge Ollscoil Uladh i gcampas Mhic Aoidh i nDoire.
