Insítear sa chlár nua The Great Book of Ireland, scéal an leabhair a ceapadh an chéad lá chun airgead a bhailiú i gcomhair eagraíochtaí a thacaigh le healaíontóirí agus scríbhneoirí.

Ag deireadh na n-ochtóidí, tugadh cuireadh d’ealaíontóirí, d’fhilí agus do chumadóirí ceoil a rogha ábhair féin a chur sa leabhar ar mhaithe le léargas a thabhairt ar Éirinn na linne “a mhairfeadh míle bliain” nó pé faid a mhairfeadh an leabhar féin.

Tá 278 leathanach ann agus is idir 1989 agus 1991 a cuireadh an leabhar le chéile.

Ar na filí Gaeilge a raibh dánta leo i Leabhar Mór na hÉireann, tá Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Liam Ó Muirthile, Cathal Ó Searchaigh, Micheál Ó Conghaile, Tomás Mac Síomóin, Gabriel Rosenstock, Pearse Hutchinson, agus Pádraig Ó Snodaigh.

Beidh saothar cuid de na filí Gaeilge le feiscint chomh maith i dtaispeántas i gColáiste na hOllscoile, Corcaigh agus é i gceist gailearaí nua a thógáil san ollscoil.

Cheannaigh an ollscoil Leabhar Mór na hÉireann in 2012 ar chostas €1 milliún d’fhonn é “a chaomhnú, a chur chun cinn agus a chur ar taispeáint go buan ar son mhuintir na hÉireann”.

Tá sé i gceist Leabhar Mór na hÉireann a thaispeáint i nGailearaí na Séad, atá le forbairt i Leabharlann Bhoole san ollscoil.

Tá an clár, The Great Book of Ireland, le craoladh ar RTÉ One Déardaoin, an 20 Lúnasa, ag 10.10i.n..
