Géarchéim teanga na Gaeltachta agus deacrachtaí tuismitheoirí le plé i dTithe na Oireachtais

Díreofar aird i dTeach Laighean tráthnóna ar ghéarchéim na teanga sa Ghaeltacht agus ar thuarascáil inar maíodh nach mbíonn ach 23% de theaghlaigh sa Ghaeltacht ag tógáil a gclann le Gaeilge.

Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta a phléifidh torthaí na tuarascála sin le Teachtaí Dála agus Seanadóirí Choiste Oireachtais na Gaeilge.

De réir na tuarascála, a rinne taighdeoirí i gColáiste Mhuire Gan Smál do Thuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta, níl an Ghaeilge á labhairt go laethúil ach ag 2,889 den 12,586 teaghlach sa Ghaeltacht ina bhfuil páistí 18 bliain nó níos óige.

Tharraing an tuarascáil go leor cainte nuair a foilsíodh í i rith an tsamhraidh, ach seo an chéad uair go mbeidh plé fúithi i dTithe an Oireachtais.

Dúirt idir pholaiteoirí, eagraíochtaí Gaeilge agus lucht pleanála teanga gur rabhadh eile faoi dhroch-chás na Gaeltachta atá sa tuarascáil nua faoi labhairt na Gaeilge.

Deir údar an taighde gur fianaise dhuairc eile atá sa tuarascáil ar ghéarchéim teanga na Gaeltachta.

Tá an Ghaeltacht le cloisteáil in arraingeacha an bháis ach níl aon duine ag éisteacht

“Is iomaí tuairisc atá feicthe againn le blianta anuas a léiríonn géarchéim na Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht agus faraor, is ceann eile í seo.

“Moltar go ndéanfaí gach iarracht tacaíocht, treoir, agus comhairle a chur ar fáil don 2,889 teaghlach atá ag tógáil a gclann le Gaeilge ionas nach dtiocfaidh lagmhisneach orthu agus iad ag iarraidh an Ghaeilge a thabhairt don chéad ghlúin eile.”

Deirtear gur chóir “tacaíocht chuí” a chur ar fáil chomh maith dóibh siúd ar mian leo a gclann a thógáil le Gaeilge.

Luaitear chomh maith sa tuarascáil easpa feighlithe linbh le Gaeilge a bheith ina bac roimh thógáil clainne le Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht.

Maítear nach bhfuil aon chóras ceart ann lena chinntiú go mbeidh feighlithe linbh a bhfuil Gaeilge acu ar fáil do thuismitheoirí.

Beidh ionadaithe ó Ghlór na nGael i láthair chomh maith ag cruinniú an lae inniu de Choiste Oireachtais na Gaeilge agus na Gaeltachta chun labhairt faoi na dúshláin a bhaineann le clann a thógáil trí Ghaeilge lasmuigh den Ghaeltacht.
