Agallamh beag le lucht “Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir”

| fionnuala |

Bunaíodh Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir go hoifigiúil i 2007 i Tamworth in aice Erinsville, Ontario, mar thoradh ar obair na heagraíochta Cumann na Gaeltachta i gCeanada ó 1994.

Is é Dónall ó Dubhghaill Taoiseach na Gaeltachta faoi láthair. Rugadh agus tógadh é i gCeanada ach is as Cill Mhantáin a shinsir. D’fhoghlaim sé a chuid Gaeilge mar dhuine fásta ó mhúinteoir a chaith go leor ama i gCorca Dhuibhne agus cloisfidh sibh blas Gaeilge na Mumhan ina chuid cainte.  Tar éis dó an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim, chaith sé thart ar scór bliain a mhúineadh. Is eolaí anois é mar shlí bheatha, a oibríonn mar chaomhnóir ealaíon don Rialtas, ach is trí Ghaeilge a chaitheann a chuid is mó dá shaol taobh amuigh den obair sin.

Labhair muid le Dónaill faoina thaithí féin agus faoin nGaeltacht, a pobal agus na himeachtaí a bhíonn ar siúl. Léirigh sé dúinn go raibh stair láidir ag baint leis na hÉireannaigh i gCeanada – i 1871 b’Éireannacha iad ceathrú de dhaonra an tír le ceathrú mhilliún cainteoirí – rinneadh iarracht ag an am an Ghaeilge, in éineacht le Gaeilge Albain, a bheith mar an tríú teanga oifigiúil. Mar a luann Dónall, tá macalla na staire sin fós sa tír agus tuigeann na Ceanadaigh an tábhacht a bhaineann le teanga agus le cultúr.

Éist leis an agallamh beag gearr seo thíos chun blas na Gaeltachta a fháil.

Is féidir dul i dteagmháil leo ar Facebook, Twitter,  nó ar a suíomh idirlín. Tá físeáin bríomhaire acu ar a gcuntas YouTube (Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir) freisin.
