Eoin O’Duffy glanta de mhúrphictiúr i nGaelcholáiste tar éis gearáin

| Tuairisc.ie | ,

Tá portráid d’Eoin O’Duffy glanta de mhórphictiúr in iarbhunscoil lán-Ghaeilge tar éis do dhaltaí agus do chuid den phobal gearán a dhéanamh faoin bhfaisistí a bhí ina cheannaire ar na Léinte Gorma a bheith le feiceáil sa scoil.

Choimisiúnaigh Coláiste Oiriall, atá lonnaithe i gCnoc an Chonnaidh i Muineachán, múrphitciúr ina raibh daoine aitheanta ón gceantar le feiceáil ann agus nochtaíodh é an mhí seo caite.

Tá Aire na Gaeltachta Catherine Martin agus an t-iar-aire Gaeltachta Heather Humphreys i measc na bpolaiteoirí, lucht spóirt agus lucht ealaíne atá le feiceáil sa mhúrphictiúr. Mana i nGaeilge atá scríofa faoin múrphictiúr, a deir ‘Cuireann muintir s’againne san earrach agus baineann siad san fhómhar nó is le dúthracht a dhúisíonn siad le breacadh an lae’.

Bhí conspóid, áfach, faoi Eoin O’Duffy a bheith le feiceáil chun tosaigh sa phictiúr. Bhí O’Duffy, a rugadh i Loch Éigis i gcontae Mhuineacháin, ina bhall d’Óglaigh na hÉireann i rith Cogaidh na Saoirse agus chaith sé tréimhsí ina cheannaire ar Fhine Gael agus i gceannas ar na Léinte Gorma sna 1930idí. Throid sé ar son Franco i gcogadh cathartha na Spáinne.

Tuigtear go ndearna daltaí Ardteiste i gColáiste Oiriall gearán go raibh O’Duffy curtha sa mhúrphictiúr ag ceiliúradh mhuintir an cheantair.

Léirigh an grúpa Cairde na hÉireann de na Briogáidí Idirnáisiúnta (**An t-aistriúchán atá acu féin ar Friends of the International Brigades in Ireland) míshástacht freisin agus dúradh go raibh sé “náireach” go mbeadh Coláiste Oiriall ag ceiliúradh O’Duffy.

Dúirt an grúpa gur “iontach” an píosa ealaíne a bhí ann ach nach raibh sé ag teacht le cur síos an ghaelcholáiste air féin mar “scoil fhorásach agus bhríomhar a bhíonn ag obair ar na caighdeáin is airde san fhoghlaim agus sa teagasc”.

Le bheith cruinn faoi, smál ar chlú na scoile sainchreidmheach atá sa mhúrphictiúr seo agus maslaíonn sé daoine eile a léirítear sa mhúrphictiúr fosta,” a dúradh ar leathanach Facebook an ghrúpa.

“Faisisteach míchlúiteach ab ea Ó Dufaigh a thacaigh leis na réimis cinedhíothaithe de chuid Hitler, Mussolini agus Franco. Mar gheall ar seo, tá sé riachtanach go gcuimhníonn muid é le drochmheas agus gan moladh ar bith a thabhairt dó.”

Thug urlabhraí de chuid na scoile le fios don Times go raibh an portráid d’O’Duffy glanta den mhúrphictiúr.
