Research and Submissions

This article summarises the research, acts, strategies, international provisions, language rights and more that relate to Irish

Conradh na Gaeilge makes submissions to public consultations to add to the debate surrounding the delivery of services through Irish. Public consultations occur when the government asks the public to submit their opinions on matters that affect them. Conradh na Gaeilge’s submissions are based on their own research, on information gathered from local sources and from international samples of best practice.

For more information about these submissions or about the research being carried our, send an email to research@cnag.ie

Céard é an Scéal? Public Opinion of the Irish Language

‘Céard é an Scéal?’, a yearly analysis of public opinions with regard to the Irish language, was started in early 2015. Primarily, this research is being conducted by Conradh na Gaeilge to:

a) Highlight and promote the needs and priorities of the Irish language and Gaeltacht community

b) Recognise obstacles in relation to the growth and development of the Irish language in the wider community and to develop a work plan accordingly

As a result of the information collected, Conradh na Gaeilge can represent the Irish language community to the authorities, to public bodies and in public life in general more effectively. This research is carried out on an annual basis in order to develop a deeper understanding of the needs of the Irish language community across the island. In addition to this, it is hoped that this research will provide the other Irish language organisations with additional information that they can use in their own work.

For more information about this research, get in touch with taighde@cnag.ie
