Botún i leagan Gaeilge pháipéar Matamaitice na hArdteiste le cur san áireamh ag scrúdaitheoirí

Cuirfear botún a rinneadh sa leagan Gaeilge de scrúdú Mata na hArdteiste san áireamh nuair a a bheidh na páipéir á marcáil, a deir Coimisiún na Scrúduithe Stáit.

Fágadh daltaí a rinne an leagan Gaeilge de Pháipéar II i scrúdú Ardleibhéil Matamaitice na Ardteiste Dé Luain faoi mhíbuntáiste mar nach raibh aon chiall le ceist amháin de thoradh botúin ar an bpáipéar scrúdaithe.

I gceist 8(b) ar an bpáipéar, ní raibh an leagan Gaeilge den cheist ag teacht le foirmle matamaitice a bhí bunaithe ar an leagan Béarla den cheist, rud a d’fhág nach raibh aon chiall léi. Ní raibh aon fhadhb leis an bpáipéar Béarla.

Deir urlabhraí ón CSS le Tuairisc go raibh siad ar an eolas maidir leis an mbotún agus go gcuirfear san áireamh é nuair a bheidh páipéir na ndaltaí a rinne an scrúdú i nGaeilge á mharcáil. ‘Bunphrionsabal’ de chuid an CSS é, a dúradh, nach bhfágfaí aon iarrthóir faoi mhíbhuntáiste mar gheall ar bhotún ar pháipéar scrúdaithe.

De réir fhigiúirí CSS, chuir 2,057 dalta in iúl go raibh siad chun an scrúdú ardleibhéil sa Mhatamaitic a dhéanamh trí Ghaeilge ach ní bheidh figiúr cruinn ar fáil maidir le líon na ndaltaí a rinne an scrúdú i nGaeilge go dtí go mbeidh na torthaí foilsithe.

Deir an Coimisiún go bhfuil nósanna imeachta i bhfeidhm chun gach iarracht a dhéanamh lena chinntiú nach mbíonn botúin sna páipéir sula bhfoilsítear iad ach go dtarlaíonn botún ó am go chéile “ar an drochuair”.

Pléadh an scéal ar an gclár Iris Aniar ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta inniu agus dúirt Niall Mac Uidhilin, arb í a iníon a thug an botún faoi deara, gur chuir an botún mearbhall uirthi agus gur chuir sí am amú ag iarraidh ciall a bhaint as an gceist.

“Dúirt sí go raibh rud á lorg sa gceist nach ndearna ciall ná réasún di. B’éigean di éirí as an gceist. Shíl sí gur easpa scile dá cuid fhéin a ba chúis leis an rud nár thuig sí,” a dúirt sé. 

“Bhí dhá leathanach déanta aici ar an gceist seo, mar sin bhí méid áirithe ama curtha amú aici, agus ansin b’éigean di dul ag tóraíocht ceist eile … Shíl sí go raibh rud éigean nach raibh feicthe aici fhéin agus go raibh an milleán uirthi féin.” 

Dúirt Mac Uidhilin nach raibh aon tagairt den bhotún feicthe aige sna meáin agus go raibh sé tábhachtach aird a tharraingt ar an scéal chun a chinntiú nach mbeadh daltaí thíos le “botún sa phróiseas aistriúcháin”.

Dúirt Eoghan Ó Ceallaigh, Príomhoide Choláiste na Coiribe i nGaillimh, nár tháinig mórán daoine chuige faoin ábhar seo, ach nuair a chuaigh sé féin agus na múinteoirí matamaitice ag fiosrú an scéil go raibh sé soiléir go raibh botún ann. 

“Bhí sé soiléir go raibh botún ann idir an leagan Béarla agus Gaeilge.  Roinnt mhaith daltaí, is dócha nár thuig siad gur botún a bhí ann. Seans maith go bhfuil daltaí tar éis an scrúdú a dhéanamh agus nach bhfuil fhios acu. Chaithfeá breathnú ar an leagan Béarla den pháipéar scrúdaithe chun ciall a bhaint as an gceist.”
