An chéad mhórfhoclóir Béarla-Gaeilge le 60 bliain anuas: The Concise English-Irish Dictionary

| 1 | ,

Tá an chéad mhórfhoclóir Béarla-Gaeilge ó cuireadh Foclóir de Bhaldraithe i gcló sa bhliain 1959 anois ar fáil. 1,800 leathanach agus níos mó ná 30,000 ceannfocal atá sa The Concise English-Irish Dictionary, a foilsíodh an mhí seo caite.

Is leagan coimrithe é an foclóir Béarla-Gaeilge seo den Fhoclóir Nua Béarla-Gaeilge atá le fáil ar líne ag focloir.ie ach mhothaigh an lucht eagarthóireachta go raibh sé tábhachtach freastal orthu siúd nach bhfuil fáil acu ar an suíomh gréasáin. Ní hamháin sin ach bhí sé thar am go raibh mórfhoclóir i bhfoirm leabhair curtha i gcló agus Gaeilge nua-aimseartha ár linne le feiceáil ann, go háirithe agus na céadta focal nua i ndiaidh teacht isteach sa chaint le glúin nó dhó anuas.

Thóg sé níos mó ná dhá bhliain ar fhoireann an fhoclóra The Concise English-Irish Dictionary a chur i gcló mar leabhar. Tá cumhdach cuimsithe ann ar Bhéarla na linne seo mar aon le rogha fhairsing d’aistriúcháin sa Ghaeilge chomhaimseartha. Is é seo an chéad mhórthionscadal foclóireachta de chuid Fhoras na Gaeilge.

The Concise English-Irish Dictionary ar fáil ar €30/£25 ó shiopaí leabhar anois.
