‘I’m almost tempted to say sin é’ – cúpla focal Gaeilge ó Arlene Foster i Stormont

| Tuairisc.ie | , ,

Labhair ceannaire an DUP agus Céad-Aire Thuaisceart Éireann Arlene Foster cúpla focal Gaeilge i bhfeidhmeannas Stormont inniu.

Bhí ceist á freagairt ag Foster faoin reachtaíocht Ghaeilge atá geallta sa chomhaontú Ré nua, Cur Chuige Nua ach nach bhfuil tugtha isteach go fóill.

Dúirt sí go rabhthas ag súil go bhféadfaí an reachtaíocht agus straitéis nua don Ghaeilge a thabhairt isteach faoi Bhealtaine na bliana seo chugainn.

Dúirt sí gur bhain an reachtaíocht Ghaeilge leis an tacaíocht níos leithne atá geallta do chúrsaí féiniúlachta sa chomhaontú.

“I’m almost tempted to say sin é, but maybe not,” arsa Foster agus clabhsúr á chur aici ar a freagra.

Labhair Arlene Foster cúpla focal Gaeilge cheana nuair a thug sí cuairt ar Our Lady’s Grammar School ar an Iúr in 2017. Ghabh sí buíochas as Gaeilge le foireann na scoile as an bhfáilte a cuireadh roimpi. “Go raibh maith agaibh,” a dúirt sí an lá sin.

Dúirt ceannaire an DUP gur bhain ‘tógáil croí’ leis an ócáid sin, an chéad ócáid ar ‘a turas’ chun aithne níos fearr a chur ar lucht na Gaeilge agus ar chultúr na Gaeilge.

Le linn an fheachtais toghchánaíochta in 2017, chuir Arlene Foster Sinn Féin i gcomparáid le crogaill a bhíonn de shíor ag iarraidh.

Bhain conspóid mhór lena ráiteas faoi Shinn Féin agus a n-éileamh ar Acht Teanga don Tuaisceart.
