An chéad scoil lán-Ghaelach i Meiriceá Thuaidh le hoscailt i mbliana

| NÓS Suíomh Gréasáin |

Osclófar an chéad scoil lán-Ghàidhlig i Meiriceá Thuaidh in Albain Nua i gCeanada. Deimhníodh le deireanas go gcuirfear beagnach $2m ar fáil le ‘Beinn Mhabu’ a oscailt i gClochar Iósaif Naofa in Mabou i gCeap Bhreatainn – ceantar a luaitear go mór leis an nGàidhlig.

Dúirt príomhaire na hAlban Nua, Iain Rankin, go “gcuirfidh [an scoil nua] leis an obair mhór a rinne lucht na hAthbheochana Gaelaí” sa chúige agus go bhfuil go leor daoine ann anois ag foghlaim agus ag labhairt na Gàidhlig.

Feidhmeoidh an scoil nua, agus na háiseanna eile a thógfar timpeall uirthi, mar chuid de Cholàisde na Gàidhlig, coláiste a chuireann an cultúr Gaelach agus an Ghàidhlig chun cinn in Albain Nua.

Tosóidh an scoil ina bunscoil lánGhàidhlig agus táthar ag súil go mbeidh meánscoil ann sna blianta amach romhainn. Beidh cúrsaí tríú leibhéal de chuid Cholàisde na Gàidhlig á reáchtáil ar an gcampas freisin, chomh maith le stáisiún raidió, agus ionad d’ealaíontóirí agus ceoltóirí.

Dúirt stiúrthóir oideachais an Cholàisde, Kenneth MacKenzie, go bhfuil éileamh ar scoil lán-Ghàidhlig in Albain Nua agus go bhfuil tuismitheoirí an chúige ag iarraidh go mbeidh an Ghàidhlig ag a ngasúir. Dúirt sé gur “scoil bheag” a bheidh inti, ach go gcuirfear “go leor spéise” sa ghnó.

Rinneadh cúpla iarracht Gaelscoil a bhunú i Stáit Aontaithe Mheiriceá i gcaitheamh na mblianta – timpeall ar cheantar New York den chuid is mó – ach níor éirigh le haon cheann de na hiarrachtaí sin. Fágann sé sin gurb í Beinn Mhabu an chéad scoil i Meiriceá Thuaidh ina ndéanfar an teagasc i dteanga Ghaelach.
