Ag Léamh faoin mBinse Scoile: Scéal Chathail Uí Shándair

Ar feadh dhá scór bliain chuir Cathal Ó Sándair (1922-1996) déagóirí na hÉireann ag léamh leabhair Ghaeilge go fonnmhar – uaireanta faoin mbinse scoile, fiú. Bleachtaireacht, eachtraíocht, buachaillí bó, ficsean eolaíochta – thriail Ó Sándair gach seánra faoin spéir le léitheoirí óga a mhealladh, agus d’éirigh leis. Sa taispeántas dátheangach seo, atá mar chuid de chomóradh ar 100 bliain ó rugadh Cathal Ó Sándair, insítear scéal an údair mór-ráchairte Gaeilge nach bhfuil mórán daoine ar an eolas faoi. Bealach iontach le ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar Sheachtain na Gaeilge!

Reading under the School Desk: The Story of Cathal Ó Sándair

For forty years Cathal Ó Sándair (1922-1996) got Ireland’s teenagers enthusiastic about reading books in Irish – sometimes even under the school desk. Detectives, adventure, cowboys, sci-fi – Ó Sándair tried his hand at every genre under the sun to engage young readers, and succeeded. This bilingual exhibition, part of a centenary celebration of Cathal Ó Sándair, tells the story of the best-selling Irish-language author you’ve probably never heard of. A great way to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge!
