Dhá Mheánscoil úr don Thuaisceart

Dhá mheánscoil úra Ghaeilge don Tuaisceart

| Dáithí Anraí |

Faoi lathair tá dhá mheánscoil Ghaeilge i dTuaisceart na hÉireann agus tá sé de rún ag an Roinn Oideachais dhá scoil nua a thógail: ceann acu i mBéal Feirste Thuaidh agus an ceann eile i gContae Thír Eoghain.

Ag an phointe seo níl ann ach Coláiste Feirste i mBéal Feirste agus Gaelcholáiste Doire i gContae Doire, chomh maith le 3 aonad meánscoile eile. Tá líon na ndaltaí a bhíonn ag freastal ar an Ghaeloideachas dara leibhéal ag ardú achan bhliain agus níl go leor spáis ann dóibh.

Tógadh Choláiste Feirste do 600 dalta ach tá níos mó na 900 ar an scoil faoi láthair, agus tá Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta ag súil le níos mó ná 1,000 dhalta sa bhliain 2024. In go leor áiteanna eile ó thuaidh, bíonn ar chuid de na daltaí meánscoile taisteal níos mó ná dhá uair an chloig achan mhaidin le freastal ar na haonaid más rud é go bhfuil siad ag iarraidh leanúint leis an Ghaeloideachas.

Thug Meon Eile cuairt ar thrí bhunscoil a bheidh in ann tairbhe a bhaint as na meánscoileanna nua. Labhair muid le Maighréad Ní Chonghaile, príomhoide ar Ghaelscoil Éanna i nGleann Ghormlaithe, a dúirt go gcaitheann na daltaí idir dhá nó trí uair an cloig achan lá ag taisteal i láthair na huaire. Labhair muid le Máire Uí Éigeartaigh, an príomhoide ar Bhunscoil Bheann Mhadagáin, a luaigh go laghdódh meánscoil úr i dTuaisceart Bhéal Feirste an brú mór atá ar Choláiste Feirste. Labhair muid fosta le Deirdre Nic Cionnaith, príomhoide Ghaelscoil na gCrann taobh amuigh den Ómaigh. Dúirt sí go mbíonn díomá urthi faoi na daltaí nach mbíonn an deis acu leanúint ar aghaidh leis an Ghaeloideachas ar an mheánscoil.

Chuaigh Meon Eile i dteagmháil leis an Roinn Oideachais agus seo thíos an ráiteas a thug siad;

“The Strategic Area Plan 2022-27: Planning for Sustainable Provision published on 29 June 2022 and associated Operational Plan 1: 2022-24, published on 1 September 2022,  were developed by the Education Authority working in partnership with the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools and collaborating with the Catholic Schools’ Trustee Service, Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta, Controlled Schools’ Support Council, Governing Bodies Association, Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education and Transferor Representatives’ Council.

The Education Authority as the lead body for area planning works closely with Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta to deliver of both Plans.  As Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta is the representative body for Irish-medium Education, providing guidance and direction on innovative sustainable Irish Medium provision, it is the contact body to provide further information on the questions below. ”
