  • Caithfidh an Bhreatnais cinniúint na Gaeilge a sheachaint – Coimisinéir Teanga na Breataine Bige
<a-href="https://tuairisc.ie"-class="credit-tuairisc"-target="-blank"-rel="noopener-noreferrer"></a>-caithfidh-an-bhreatnais-cinniuint-na-gaeilge-a-sheachaint-–-coimisineir-teanga-na-breataine-bige

Caithfidh an Bhreatnais cinniúint na Gaeilge a sheachaint – Coimisinéir Teanga na Breataine Bige

Tá ráite ag Coimisinéir Teanga na Breataine Bige gur gá a chinntiú go seachnóidh an Bhreatnais cinniúint na Gaeilge.

Ag labhairt ag an Eisteddfod, macasamhail fhéile an Oireachtais sa Bhreatain Bheag, dúirt Aled Roberts go gcaithfí féachaint chuige nach mbeadh bearna mhór ann idir líon na ndaoine a bhfuil labhairt na Breatnaise acu agus líon na ndaoine a labhraíonn gach lá í.

“Bíonn claonadh ann díriú an iomarca ar stádas, ar staitisticí agus ar líon na gcainteoirí.

“Nuair a dhéantar amhlaidh bíonn an baol ann gurb é a bheidh anseo againn ná cás na hÉireann, áit a bhfuil labhairt na Gaeilge ag 1.76 milliún duine ach nach labhraíonn gach lá í ach 0.5%.

“Ba mhaith liomsa go ndíreoimis ar phleananna a chuirfidh le líon na ndaoine a bhaineann úsáid as an mBreatnais gach lá.”

Ag tagairt d’fhigiúirí dhaonáireamh 2016 na hÉireann a bhí Coimisinéir Teanga na Breataine Bige. Sa daonáireamh deireanach in 2016, thug 1.76 milliún duine le fios go bhfuil Gaeilge acu agus 73,804 duine a thug le fios go labhraíonn siad Gaeilge gach lá lasmuigh den chóras oideachais. Is fada daoine in amhras faoi líon ard na ndaoine a mhaíonn go bhfuil Gaeilge acu agus glacann saineolaithe leis na figiúirí maidir le cainteoirí laethúla mar shlat tomhais ar staid na teanga.

Tá sé mar sprioc ag Rialtas na Breataine go dtiocfadh nach mór dúbailt ar líon na gcainteoirí Breatnaise faoi 2050 agus go mbeadh milliún cainteoir Breatnaise sa tír an uair sin.

Ceapadh Aled Roberts ina choimisinéir teanga níos túisce i mbliana agus tá sé mhí caite aige ag taisteal na tíre ag plé cás na Breatnaise le daoine.

Dúirt sé gur mór an “dea-thoil” a léirigh daoine don teanga ach go raibh dúshláin go leor roimpi, ina measc easpa múinteoirí Breatnaise agus deiseanna fostaíochta.
