Séarachas ámh á scaoileadh sa bhfarraige i sé bhaile Gaeltachta

| Padraic O Ciardha | ,

Tá sé bhaile Gaeltachta ar liosta na Gníomhaireachta um Chaomhnú Comhshaoil (EPA) de bhailte óna bhfuil séarachas á scaoileadh chun siúil i lochanna, aibhneacha agus farraigí na hÉireann.

De réir na tuarascála, Urban Waste Water Treatment in 2018, tá dramhuisce neamhchóireáilte, nó séarachas amh, á scaoileadh chun siúil ó cheithre bhaile Gaeltachta i nDún na nGall, an Fál Carrach, Cill Charthaigh, an Cheathrú Chaol agus Ailt an Chorráin, agus ó dhá bhaile i nGaeltacht na Gaillimhe, An Cheathrú Rua agus an Spidéal.

Bhí na bailte Gaeltachta céanna luaite i dtuarascáil na bliana seo caite.

Tá cáineadh déanta ag an EPA sa tuarascáil ar an mhoill a deir siad atá ar Uisce Éireann agus iad ag tabhairt faoi oibreacha cóireála dramhuisce.

Bhí oibreacha i bhformhór na mbailte ar an liosta le bheith críochnaithe in 2020 ach tá moill curtha ar an gcuid is mó acu.

Deir an tuarascáil go mbeidh na hoibreacha cóireála sin críochnaithe i gcúig cinn de na bailte Gaeltachta in 2021.

Beidh tuilleadh moille ann i gcás na Ceathrún Rua, áfach, agus é ráite nach mbeidh na hoibreacha críochnaithe go dtí 2022.

Tá na sé cinn de bhailte Gaeltachta luaite chomh maith ar liosta an EPA den 120 ceantar uirbeach sa stát ina dteastaíonn feabhas maidir leis an gcóras cóireála dramhuisce chun go mbainfí spriocanna timpeallachta amach.

Tá an Tearmann i nGaeltacht Dhún na nGall luaite chomh maith ar an liosta sin.

Cé go bhfuil líon na mbailte ina bhfuil oibreacha cóireála dramhuisce tithe le bliain anuas, ó 132 go dtí 120, deir an tuarascáil go bhfuil séarachas ámh ó 77,000 duine i 36 baile á scaoileadh chun siúil i lochanna, aibhneacha agus farraigí na hÉireann gach lá.
