Oireachtas na Samhna 2020 curtha ar ceal de bharr Covid-19

| Maitiu O Coimin |

Ní bheidh Oireachtas na Samhna ar siúl i mbliana mar gheall ar an víreas corónach. D’fhógair Oireachtas na Gaeilge, an eagraíocht a eagraíonn an fhéile mhór Ghaelach, inniu nach mbeifear ag dul ar aghaidh leis an bhféile i mbliana.

Ba i nGaillimh a bhí an fhéile le bheith ar siúl i mbliana, den chéad uair le blianta fada, agus í mar chuid den bhliain mhór cheiliúrtha ‘Gaillimh 2020’. Cuireadh go leor leor d’imeachtaí Gaillimh 2020 ar ceal freisin i mbliana, mar gheall ar scaipeadh an víris.

“Ní gan dua ná doicheall a glacadh an cinneadh seo, ach tá sláinte sábháilteacht agus leas phobal an Oireachtais, agus an mhórphobail, níos tábhachtaí ná cúram ar bith eile ag an tráth corrach seo inár saol.   Níl sé indéanta féile Oireachtais mar is eol dúinn é a reáchtáil i mbliana ach táimid diongbháilte de go leanfaimid ar aghaidh le linn thréimhse an Oireachtais de chur chun cinn na n-ealaíon teangabhunaithe agus de fhreastal ar an bpobal a bhí dílis i gcónaí don Oireachtas, más go fíorúil féin a dhéanfaimid é,” a dúirt stiúrthóir na féile Liam Ó Maolaodha.

Ghabh Liam buíochas leis na grúpaí éagsúla a thug tacaíocht d’Oireachtas 2020 go dtí seo agus dúirt gur “onóir ab ea é a bheith ag obair leo” agus go bhfuil sé “ag súil le bheith ag obair leo arís san am atá le teacht.

Fágann an cinneadh seo nach mbeidh Oireachtas na Samhna ag tarlú i nGaillimh go ceann tamaill, ó tá na socruithe déanta, a deirtear, go mbeidh an fhéile á reáchtáil i gCill Airne an bhliain seo chugainn agus arís i 2022.

“Tá aontú i bprionsabal le Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe go mbeidh féile 2023 á reáchtáil i nGaillimh,” a dúradh sa ráiteas a eisíodh inniu.
