Ranganna Gaeilge le cur ar fáil do gach Garda sa tír

| Padraic O Ciardha | ,

Tá sé i gceist ag an nGarda Síochána cúrsaí Gaeilge a chur ar fáil do gach Garda sa tír.

I gcáipéisí a chur Coimisinéir an Gharda Síochána Drew Harris ar fáil do Choiste Gaeilge an Oireachtais, leagtar amach cuid d’aidhmeanna an fhórsa i leith na Gaeilge. Ar cheann de na pleananna sin tá ranganna Gaeilge ar líne d’aon Gharda a mbeadh a leithéid uathu.

Tá na Gardaí i mbun cainte le Gaelchultúr maidir leis na cúrsaí a bhunú agus tá na cainteanna sin fós ag dul ar aghaidh. Meastar go mbeidh cúrsaí ann do bhaill a mbeadh leibhéil éagsúla Gaeilge acu.

Thug an Coimisinéir Harris le fios sna cáipéisí go bhfuil maoiniú ceadaithe cheana féin chun na cúrsaí a reáchtáil.

“Tá maoiniú díreach ceadaithe ag Acmhainní Daonna agus Forbairt Daoine d’oiliúint Gaeilge agus beifear ag comhoibriú Ie Gaelchultúr chun cúrsaí Gaeilge ar líne a chur ar fáil do phearsanra iomlán an Gharda Síochána,” a dúirt Drew Harris.

Tá sé i gceist ag Coiste Gaeilge, Gaeltachta agus Pobal Labhartha na Gaeilge an Oireachtais an Ghaeilge sa Gharda Síochána a phlé a luaithe agus atá an obair atá ar bun acu faoi láthair i dtaobh an Bhille Teanga curtha i gcrích.

Tá cuireadh tugtha do Drew Harris teacht os comhair an choiste agus dáta cuí fós le socrú.

Is é an Teachta Dála de chuid Shinn Féin, Pa Daly, a mhol go dtabharfaí Coimisinéir an Gharda Síochána os comhair an choiste agus é ráite ag Daly go bhfuil ceisteanna le freagairt faoin “easpa oibre” atá á déanamh ag an eagraíocht i dtaobh Gardaí le Gaeilge a chur ar fáil sa Ghaeltacht.

Léirigh scéal a foilsíodh ar an suíomh seo roimh na Nollaig nach bhfuil Gaeilge ach ag an tríú cuid de Ghardaí na Gaeltachta.

Léirigh na figiúirí nach raibh Gaeilge ach ag 35 den 101 Garda atá lonnaithe i 21 stáisiún Gardaí sa Ghaeltacht.
