Iarrachtaí ar bun Gaelscoil a bhunú san Astráil

Tá iarrachtaí ar bun ag grúpa cainteoirí Gaeilge in Victoria na hAstráile scoil dhátheangach Ghaeilge-Béarla a bhunú sa tír sin. Tá “tuismitheoirí agus seantuismitheoirí” a chuir aithne ar a chéile trína “ngean coitinne” d’fhoghlaim na Gaeilge i measc na ndaoine atá ag achainí ar an Victorian School Building Authority “scoil dhátheangach Ghael-Astrálach” a chur ar bun.

Deirtear san achainí ar líne a thosaigh an grúpa go bhfuil brú á chur orthu “rogha dhéanamh idir an grá atá [acu] do shaol na hAstráile agus an grá atá [acu] dá bpobal teanga”.

Maítear gur annamh a bhíonn an deis ag cainteoirí Gaeilge na hAstráile a “bhféiniúlacht mar Ghaeilgeoirí” a chur in iúl san ionad oibre agus ina gcaidrimh phearsanta agus gur “ag snámh in aghaidh easa” a bhíonn siad agus iarrachtaí á ndéanamh acu a bpobal teanga a chaomhnú.

Luaitear san achainí an scoil Ghearmáinise, Deutshe Schule Melbourne, scoil a bhíonn ag teagasc go dátheangach i nGearmáinis agus i mBéarla chomh maith le gluaiseacht na Gaelscolaíochta in Éirinn mar shamplaí den chineál scolaíochta a d’fhéadfaí a chur ar fáil san Astráil.

“Is mithid an chéad scoil dhátheangach Gael-Astrálach a bhunú, in aice le Saint Kilda is dócha. Léirítear arís agus arís eile san eolas daonáirimh go bhfuil an Astráil ar cheann de na tíortha is mó a bhfuil pobal Éireannach ann, taobh amuigh d’Éirinn féin, agus go bhfuil Saint Kilda ar cheann de na bruachbhailte is Éireannaí san Astráil.

“Tá ár gcuid cánach íoctha againn agus tá ár bpobal teanga anois ag iarraidh ar na comhlachtaí cuí rialtais agus oideachais tacaíocht a thabhairt dúinn ó thaobh acmhainní agus áiseanna teanga le go mbeidh ionadaíocht againn i measc na ngnáthscoileanna,” a deirtear san achainí.
