Forbairt Gaelcholáiste ina céim i dtreo ceantar ‘Gaeltachta’ a bhunú in oirthear Phort Láirge

| Tuairisc.ie | , ,

D’fhéadfadh forbairt Gaelcholáiste in oirthear Phort Láirge deis a chruthú le “ceantar Gaeltachta” a bhunú san áit.

B’in a deir Teachta Dála áitiúil agus é fógartha go bhfuil an Roinn Oideachais chun maoiniú a chur ar fáil le campas nua a thógáil d’iarbhunscoil lán-Ghaeilge sna Déise.

Tuairiscítear go bhfuil foirgneamh nua le tógáil do Ghaelcholáiste Phort Láirge, atá lonnaithe i mBaile Gunnair in oirthear an chontae.

Nuair a bheidh an foirgneamh nua tógtha, meastar go bhfreastalóidh an scoil ar suas le 350 dalta. Thart ar 150 dalta atá ag freastal ar Ghaelcholáiste Phort Láirge i láthair na huaire.

Bunaíodh an scoil in 2007 agus bhog sí go dtí an t-ionad ina bhfuil sí suite faoi láthair in 2011. Foirgnimh réamhdhéanta atá in úsáid mar sheomraí ranga sa scoil faoi láthair. Bheadh an foirgneamh nua le tógáil in aice leis an suíomh ar a bhfuil an scoil anois.

Chuir an Teachta Dála áitiúil Matt Shanahan fáilte roimh an scéal go raibh maoiniú le cur ar fáil ag an Roinn Oideachais agus mheas sé go mbeadh an-tionchar aige ar chur chun cinn na Gaeilge sa cheantar.

Dúirt Shanahan go raibh an teanga ag dul ó neart go neart i mBaile Gunnair le roinnt blianta anuas agus go raibh deis ann anois “ceantar Gaeltachta” a bhunú in oirthear Phort Láirge.

Agus é ag labhairt sa Waterford News & Star, dúirt an Teachta Dála Neamhspleách gur “céim shuntasach” a bhí sa bhfógra seo don Ghaeilge agus don oideachas dara leibhéal i bPort Láirge.
