Banc ceannais na Nua-Shéalainne ag seasamh an fhóid ar son na Maoraise

Tá banc ceannais na Nua-Shéalainne ag seasamh an fhóid maidir le húsáid na Maoraise.

Tá comhrialtas nua na Nua-Shéalainne ag iarraidh gearradh siar ar úsáid na teanga sa tseirbhís phoiblí, ach deir Gobharnóir an Bhainc Cheannais go bhfuil siad bródúil as a n-ainm Maoraise, Te Pūtea Matua.

De réir pholasaithe an chomhrialtais nua, ní foláir do chomhlachtaí poiblí agus ranna stáit tús áite a thabhairt don Bhéarla ina gcuid ainmneacha agus ina gcuid cumarsáide.

Deir an rialtas nua go gcaithfidh “príomhainm” an chomhlachta phoiblí a bheith i mBéarla mura bhfuil baint shonrach ag a gcúram le cás na Māori.

Chomh maith leis sin, caithfear cumarsáid a dhéanamh go príomha i mBéarla mura bhfuil baint shonrach ag an tseirbhís phoiblí le cás na Māori.

Tháinig Páirtí Náisiúnta na Nua-Shéalainne ar réiteach le dhá pháirtí eile an tseachtain seo caite chun comhrialtas ar dheis ón lár a bhunú.

Chomh maith le gearradh siar ar úsáid na Maoraise, tá sé i gceist ag an rialtas nua athbhreithniú a dhéanamh ar pholasaithe a bhaineann leis an idirdhealú dearfach agus ar an mbrí a bhaintear sa reachtaíocht as Conradh Waitingi, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, conradh bunaidh na Nua-Shéalainne.

Dúirt duine de cheannairí an pháirtí  Te Pāti Māori, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, gur léir gur rialtas “naimhdeach” a bheadh ann don Mhaorais agus gur “céim ar gcúl” a bhí sna polasaithe nua a chuirfeadh ar ceal cearta teanga agus cearta eile a baineadh amach “de réir a chéile”.

“A leithéid de rialtas naimhdeach seanaimseartha ó thaobh na Māori de. Ní fhaca mé a leithéid le mo bheo. Ta seasamh á thógáil acu in aghaidh na rudaí beaga atá bainte amach de réir a chéile ag na Māori le 20 nó bliain anuas chun dul i ngleic leis an éagothromas.”

Dúirt Gobharnóir an Bhainc Cheannais Adrian Orr go leanfadh siad orthu ag úsáid an teidil Te Pūtea Matua chomh maith leis an dteideal Béarla Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ).

“An tslí a nglacaimid chugainn féin Te ao Māori [dearcadh saoil na Maorach] baineann sé leis an tslí a mbímid ag obair lena chéile seachas leis an sainordú atá againn, agus bíonn gach a ndéanaimid ceangailte leis an sainordú atá againn de réir an dlí,” a dúirt sé.
