Ón gCeathrú Rua go Príosún Chill Mhaighneann

Ón gCeathrú Rua go Príosún Chill Mhaighneann

Beidh ócáid spéisiúil ag Cumann Béaloidis Chonamara in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge ar an gCeathrú Rua oíche Déardaoin. ‘An Dr Elsie Murphy: ón gCeathrú Rua go Príosún Chill Mhaighneann’ teideal na cainte a bheidh ag an an Dr Clíodhna Ní Mhurchú don chomhluadar.

Chaith Elsie Murphy seal ina dochtúir teaghlaigh  i mBéal an Daingin i gConamara le linn Chogadh na gCarad, an chéad bhean a d’oibrigh mar dhochtúir sa gceantar. Bhí cúlra láidir poblachtánach ag Elsie agus bhí sí gníomhach i gCumann na mBan.  Mar gheall ar a cuid polaitíochta, gabhadh í ar an gCeathrú Rua i 1923 agus chaith sí sé mhí sa bpríosún i mBaile Átha Cliath.

Is dochtúir teaghlaigh as Cois Fharraige í Clíodhna Ní Mhurchú a bhfuil BA sa tseandálaíocht agus sa nGaeilge aici, chomh maith le MA seandálaíochta san oisté-eolaíocht.  Tá spéis aici sa stair áitiúil agus sna scéalta atá fós á n-inseacht.  Déanann sí taighde ginealaigh agus taighde staire mar chaitheamh aimsire.

Beidh an chaint spéisiúil seo ag tosú ag a  8.00in oíche Déardaoin an lá deiridh den mhí agus fáilte roimh an bpobal ar fad.
