Braitheann go leor daltaí bunscoile go n-imíonn an t-am níos moille sa rang nuair a bhíonn an Ghaeilge á teagasc, a deirtear i dtuarascáil nua.

Deirtear sa tuarascáil is déanaí sa tsraith taighde náisiúnta Children’s School Lives nach mbíonn ‘suim’ sa Ghaeilge ach ag thart ar bheirt as gach cúigear daltaí (42%) faoin am go mbaineann siad rang a ceathair amach.

Chomh maith leis sin, tuairiscítear go gcuireann foghlaim na Gaeilge mearbhall agus leadrán ar os cionn leath de dhaltaí.

“Murab ionann agus an dearcadh sách dearfach a bhí coitianta ag daltaí sa dá chohórt agus ag gach grád i leith fhoghlaim na matamaitice agus an Bhéarla, bhí tuairimí níos diúltaí á léiriú go seasta i leith fhoghlaim na Gaeilge,” a deirtear sa chúigiú tuarascáil ó CSL.

“Bhí baint aige seo leis na deacrachtaí a bhíonn ag páistí nuair a bhíonn siad ag foghlaim na Gaeilge agus leis an mothú nach bhfuil siad ábalta chuige.

“Dúirt formhór páistí go bhfaigheann siad deacair é mar gheall ar fhocail agus fuaimeanna nach bhfuil taithí acu orthu, agus bhí go leor acu ar mhian leo go dtabharfadh múinteoirí níos mó tacaíochta dóibh ó thaobh an aistriúcháin agus na foghraíochta.”

Ba mhinic páistí ag cur síos ar a dtaithí foghlama ag brath ar cé chomh tapa nó chomh mall a bhraith siad an t-am á chaitheamh sa rang, a deirtear.

Dúirt os cionn leath (52%) go gcuireann foghlaim na Gaeilge mearbhall orthu agus b’údar imní foghlaim na teanga sin ag 27%. Ní dúirt ach 21% go mbíonn siad sásta nuair a bhíonn siad ag foghlaim na Gaeilge, an céatadán is ísle go mór as na hábhair go léir. 58% a dúirt go gcuireann an Ghaeilge leadrán orthu agus níor thug ach 27% le fios go bhfuil suim acu inti mar ábhar.

An ealaín, an ceol agus an Ghaeilge na hábhair ba lú fiúntas ag na daltaí. Níos lú ná leath de na daltaí a cheap go raibh na hábhair sin “an-úsáideach”. Níor cheap ach 38% go raibh an Ghaeilge “an-úsáideach” agus cheap 26% nach raibh sí ró-úsáideach ar chor ar bith.
