Tá spreagadh á thabhairt do Imelda May, duine d’amhránaithe móra na tíre, an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim tar éis di a “briseadh croí” i dtaobh a teanga dúchais a nochtadh.
I dteachtaireacht a chuir Imelda May amach ar a cuntas Twitter, dúirt an t-amhránaí as Baile Átha Cliath go raibh sí “croíbhriste” gur “goideadh” an teanga uaithi.
D’fhógair May an méid sin tar éis di breathnú ar Fleadh2020, sraith cláracha a craoladh ar TG4 le déanaí, cláir a raibh scéalta, filíocht agus amhráin le cloisteáil orthu “ba cheart” a bheith ar a toil aici féin, a dúirt sí.
Dúirt May gur údar “náire” é go mbeadh uirthi an teanga “nár chóir go ngoidfí riamh” uaithi í a fhoghlaim, amhail “páiste”.
After watching #Fleadh2020 on @TG4TV I’m overcome with grief for the language that was stolen from me. The stories, poetry, songs that should be on my tongue. The embarrassment at having to learn like a child my own teanga that should never have been taken away from me. #gaeilge

Chothaigh teachtaireacht May go leor cainte ar líne agus go leor teachtaireachtaí chun an t-amhránaí a spreagadh le Gaeilge a fhoghlaim.
It is still within you Imelda that’s why it stirs your soul when you experience it. It’s never too late to retrieve what is rightfully yours. ‘Beatha teanga í a labhairt’ (the language lives when spoken) Wish you the best with it. Go néirí leat 🤩

Níl sé ródhéanach: níor baineadh tada as an lá amárach fós!

It’s even in the soul of some of us Englishmen (descended, I assume, from Irish immigrants) who have learnt the language because it and the music from which I first encountered it (buíochas do @ClannadMusic) speaks to my soul like no other language.

I think everyone wants to help you now 🙂 Is maith sin. Go at your own pace. Putting on TG4 or Raidió na Gaeltachta in the background is great for bringing back words you have forgotten. Lose fear. Have fun. Laugh at mistakes. Use what you have. That’s far better than memorizing
